Flexible Learning Days

 

Idea

Utilize blended learning strategies and tools to minimize the disruption to academic progress that is caused by weather related emergency school closures.

 

Vision

On days when school is cancelled due to inclement weather, students and teachers will utilize developmentally appropriate resources to communicate and engage in flexible learning experiences that are related to current classroom curriculum goals and skills.

 

Task Force

A 33 member task force met three times in the fall of 2015 to develop a comprehensive plan for implementing flexible learning days when school is closed due to weather related situations. The task force was made up of high school students, parents, staff, and administration representing programming from Early Childhood through grade 12.

Flexible Learning Day #1 - February 2, 2016

Principals tracked flexible learning day assignments of teachers in their buildings
Initial take-aways were positive.
New questions regarding how to balance the quantity of work with the rigor of work in an online environment.
Experiences reinforce idea to have consistent shared virtual space environment (the same LMS) at elementary buildings.
