Geography 7 Syllabus
Geography 7
Mr. Boe
Room 212
Geography 7 is an introductory course in cultural and physical geography. The class is a regional study of the cultures and peoples of the world. Topics to be covered include:
Basic Geographic Concepts
Physical and Political Geography
North America
Latin America
Europe
North Africa and the Middle East
Sub Sahara Africa
Australia and Oceania
We will use a variety of sources in our study of the world. Our foundation source will be our text book Geography – The World and Its People. In addition to our text book we will use atlases, almanacs, videos, newspapers, magazines, films, and the internet to expand our knowledge of world geography.
My classroom has four simple rules:
- Show up.
Attendance is vital to learning. Many of the activities we do can not be made up outside the classroom or replaced by a worksheet. Try to avoid absences whenever possible. When a student is absent it is up to them to get their missing assignments or notes. If you know you are going to be absent ahead of time make arrangements as soon as possible.
- Pay attention.
Learning is an active process. It is something you must do. Learning doesn’t “just happen”. Your education is the result of your efforts.
3. Do your work.
It is called homework for a reason. Get it done and done on time. There is no late work in Geography 7. If you are absent you get two days for each day you miss to make up work assigned while you were gone. Long term assignments are not covered by the “two day” rule.
4. Behave
Behavior that interferes with the learning process will not be tolerated. Students who continually choose to misbehave will be removed from class.
Grades
Students in Geography 7 are graded on a traditional percentage scale.
A 90-100% of the total possible points.
B 80-89% of the total possible points.
C 70-79% of the total possible points.
D 60-69% of the total possible points.
F Failure to earn at least 60% of the possible points .
Points are earned through a variety of activities and assessments. They include tests, quizzes, oral reports, written reports, maps, activity packets, multimedia presentations, news logs, and atlas packets.
The assignment book is an excellent tool to help students get their work done and done on time. Use it every day in every class. Geography 7 assignments are posted on the assignment board. Students who need help will find me in room 212 before school from 7:30-7:55 and after school from 2:55 until 3:15. I will work with students earlier or later if they make an appointment with me.
Communication is vital to student success. I encourage parents to stop by before or after school or to call or email anytime you have a question or concern. Grades are posted online and may be accessed through the school website. My number at school is
