Welcome to STEM with Mr. Toupence!
My name is Jason Toupence and I am thrilled to be teaching STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) at the middle school. I graduated from Texas A&M University as a science teacher. I have been in the Saint Peter Public Schools for the past three years in various capacities: SpEd paraprofessional, 6th grade teacher, and STEM teacher.
Over the course of the year students at the middle school will practice and engage in the design process.
"We don't need an army of engineers; we need an army of problem solvers!"
-Steve Davee, Chief Maker Educator, Maker Ed, 2016 NSTA STEM Forum
STEM is by no means the only place this design process works. Art, science, math, history projects, and even organizing your sock drawer could all benefit from keeping the design process in mind. One of the key elements in the design process is the redesign loop. In order to improve our design and solve our problem, we will fail. That is AWESOME! Learning from our mistakes/failures is what makes us learn and improve.
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
