School Social Work is a specialized area of practice within the broad field of social work. In the school setting, the goal of school social work is to assist young people in accomplishing appropriate developmental tasks and identify conditions that interfere with the student's ability to connect with the educational system. A key function of my work is to assess what is happening in relations in the classroom, within the family, and between family and school and the places where interventions will be most effective.
Social Work practice in schools includes: assessment, crisis intervention, home visits, conflict resolution, individual and group counseling, consultation, and coordinating the delivery of educational and mental health services. School Social Workers actively address barriers within the child, home, school, and community that interfere with student success and achievement.
I feel privileged to be able to work with students and families at this early stage in the child's educational experience. Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns...
I love kids! I have three grown children and 5 grandchildren. Life doesn't get any better than being surrounded by kids, whether at school or at home!
