Mrs. Steffen
Greetings from Room 120. My name is Marilyn Steffen and I teach third graders at North Intermediate School. I began teaching in the St. Peter School District in 1975. During my career I have taught Title I Math, Title I Reading, and Grades 1, 2, and 3. Although I've enjoyed each position, I find that working with third graders, watching their enthusiasm as they develop into independent learners, is truly my favorite.
I received my B. A. from Mankato State College (now Minnesota State University), and my M.A. from the same institution when it was called Mankato State University. In 2007 I received my National Board Certification for Professional Teachers.
My hobbies include reading and knitting. Now that my two sons are grown and off on their own, I find that I have more time to enjoy both these pastimes. Not only that, but now my husband and I are more free to enjoy another interest of ours - traveling. We visit our first son in Chicago as often as possible. Our second recently joined the Navy, so who knows where or when we might have the opportunity to visit him!
I feel that my mission as a teacher is to instill in each child an appreciation and love of learning. Whether it's the joy of reading a good book, or that feeling of accomplishment after figuring out a difficult math problem, seeing that delight in a child's eyes is what makes this a truly rewarding profession!
