EL

     Welcome to our English Learner (EL) website!  My name is Stella Meixner.  My teaching journey started soon after I received a Bachelor’s degree in English.  I taught middle school students English in Taiwan for about five years.  I then came to the U.S. to further my education.  One year later, I received a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and started teaching ELs in the St. Peter School District in 1994.  Currently, I work with ELs in grades 3-12.

          I live in St. Peter with my loving husband and two wonderful children.  In my free time, I enjoy jogging, swimming, reading, and listening to classical music.

          Being able to speak Taiwanese, Chinese, English, and some Spanish helps me experience the process and complexity of learning a new language.  Our EL classes are designed to promote the students’ English language development.  The ELs are expected to do their best and have fun while learning.  As an immigrant myself, I understand how important home cultures and languages are in ELs' self-esteem and learning; therefore, we respect each other’s heritage, and we celebrate the wealth of diversity each EL brings.
