St. Peter native/current T-Wolves staffer reads to South students
South Elementary students in Mrs. Borchert's class recently had a special guest in class from the Minnesota Timberwolves staff. St. Peter native JT Hoffman, who was a student in Mrs. Borchert's kindergarten class during her first year of teaching in 1989-1990, is now a payroll accountant for the Timberwolves, which sponsors the Read To Achieve program.
As part of this project, Timberwolves employees can go out to visit a classroom to read and bring them many "goodies" and JT chose to visit his former kindergarten teacher's classroom. JT first read the book "The Book With No Pictures" by B.J. Novak and donated the copy to Mrs. Borchert's classroom.
"This is a silly book which the children really enjoyed," according to his former kindergarten teacher.
JT also read the book "Who Was Here?", by Mia Posada, to the class.
"This is a nonfiction book with pictures of animal tracks, animals and facts about the different animals," Mrs. Borchert said. "Not only did he donate a copy of it to our classroom but he gave each child their own hard covered copy to keep! In addition to this each student received a Timberwolves bookmark, poster, and lunch bag. This is the second year in a row that he visited my classroom (to read to the students). "
