My bio and goals

Hi!  My name is Tom Bollum and I teach English Learners (ELs) at St. Peter High School (grades 9 - 12). Before coming to St. Peter Public Schools, I was a licensed English teacher at a private high school in Japan for 13 years. I grew up in St. Peter and graduated from St. Peter High School.

My goals for the EL Program at St. Peter are:

  1. To help all students improve their English ability in order to fully participate in content area classes.

  2. To teach study skills and strategies needed to succeed in American high schools.

  3. To value all cultures and languages.

  4. To develop a channel for communication with parents/guardians.

  5. Encourage all students to take part in extra-curricular activities.

Each year, students will take the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 test in February.  What is the ACCESS Test?

The Assesing Comprehension and Communication in English State to State (ACCESS for ELLs™) test places students in English language proficiency (ELP) levels 1 to 5.

St. Peter Public Schools provides services to students scoring levels 1 to 4 and exits students from support programs when they reach Level 5.
