Hello, I'm Dave Haugh and I am the band director for grades 7-12. I graduated from Mankato East High School, the University of St. Thomas with a business degree, and Mankato State University with a music education degree and masters in music education. I taught for twelve years at NRHEG High School in New Richland. Prior to teaching, I was a member of the Madison (WI) Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps, the Govenaires Senior Drum & Bugle Corps, and on staff with both the Mankato '77 Lancers Marching Band & the Maple River Marching Eagles.
My wife Michel & I live in Mankato with our daughter Milena, son Everett, cat and two dogs. In my free time I play slowpitch softball in the summer and downhill ski in the winter, as well as shooting pool.
I encourage parents & students to join our facebook page: search for St. Peter Saints Marching/Pep Band. Also, if you'd like periodic text reminders or changes to the schedule, text @sphsband to 442-333-4180.
2nd Quarter 2017-2018 requirements (details posted in band room):
7th Grade: 6 lessons per quarter, 3 of those will need to be done by midquarter. 7th graders may also play a major scale up & down by memory, if they can do it within the first try. Once you've done a particular scale, you cannot do that one again. Video lessons are also an option if you cannot always make your lesson time. Students may work on band music two times per quarter in lieu of your lesson book for full credit.
8th Grade: 3 lessons per quarter, doing the equivalent of 1 page per lesson. Everyone must have one lesson done by midquarter for full credit. One of the three lessons may be work on band music, and you will get full credit. 8th graders are also encouraged to join the HS for winter pep band, and you will receive a half of a lesson credit for each time you come - but only up to four times. A maximum of two video lessons may be submitted each quarter.
High School: 9th graders need to come in two times to work on pep band or concert music - please schedule with Mr. Haugh with both of these times completed by Dec. 20th. A final individualized requirement must be approved by Dec. 20th and completed by the end of the quarter. Concert Band members who did not perform in an instrumental ensemble will also have the individualized requirement, but they have to have theirs approved by Dec. 15.
Jazz 1 members need to attend all practices prior to the concerts, unless excused, scheduled for outside of the school day. Jazz 1 will perform Jan. 20th with Cleveland HS and guest artist, Adrian Barnett. Details about how this may fulfill some of the requirements are posted in the band room.
CONCERTS: upcoming concerts: Jazz Band - Sat. Jan. 20th, 3pm, HS Bands/Jazz 1 - Sun. March 4th all in the HS auditorium & the MS Band/Choir Concert is Dec. 19.
