Welcome to English 9

Course Description

The primary focus of English 9 is on reading and composition. Students will read short stories, drama, and novels. Students will analyze literary devices.

Improving composition skills is another main focus of English 9. Students will demonstrate their ability to organize and compose multi-paragraph essays.

Vocabulary from the reading texts will be studied in order to increase familiarity with words.

Classroom Expectations

Students need to come to class with proper materials.   Students are expected to be polite and respectful to each other and to the teacher. No harassment of any kind will be tolerated. Personal property needs to be treated with respect. No backpacks are allowed in this room! Please turn off your cell phones.

Tardy Policy
Unexcused tardies will earn you detention. You earn an unexcused tardy by not bringing proper materials to this class or by not being in your seat on time. Running into the room as the last bell rings is not acceptable! If you are late coming from another class or the office, make sure you have a pass.

76-73%       C
72-70%       C-
69-67%       D+
66-63%       D
62-60%       D-
59% and below    F

NO EXTRA CREDIT IS OFFERED. KEEP UP WITH ALL ASSIGNMENTS.

If you are absent make sure you check with me about make-up work. It is your responsibility to be prepared for class and to be current with all your work.

If you use your class time wisely, there is no reason for you not to be successful in here.
