NAME OF COURSE: Art 7
 
GRADE LEVEL(S): 7
 
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
 
Students will study the design elements and principals, and how they interact to create art forms. A variet\ of media will be used to explore the elements and principals, including units in drawing, watercolors, clay sculpture, and mixed media. Balance problems will be explored as well as tessellation of Islamic Art and MC. Esher. Of parucular emphasis will be the student's development of technical skills using art tools and in inanipulatiol= materials.
 
 
 
 
 
 
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
 
The student will develop an understanding of the following objectives:
 
I . The Elements of Design and Principals of Design
 
2.     Sytnmetrical, Asymmetrical, and Radial Balance
 
;.      Tessellation'Islamic Art and M.C. Esher
 
4.     One‑point perspective interior design
 
5.     Clay sculptures (pinch pot, coiling, slab methods/luting and use of multiple glazes='bells," decorative piece with a function.
 
6.     Commercial art
 
7.     Advertisement
 
8.     Watercolor of landscape
 
9.     Final Activity: Commemorative stamp or seed packet
 
 
 
UNITS COVERED IN THE COURSE AND MAJOR TOPICS:
 
I.     Elements and Principals of design (including units in drawing. watercolors, printmaking, clay sculpture‑ and mixed media.
 
2.      Balance problems
 
3.      Tessellation of Islamic Art and M.C. Esher
4.      Development of technical skills in using art tools and in manipulating materials.
