NAME OF COURSE: Art 8
 
GRADE LEVEL(S): 8
 
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
 
This course is designed to give students as much insight into the aspects and the experiences of the visual arts as possible, concentrating on art elements, structural principles, and cultural contexts. Through many different experiences, students will gain better understanding and appreciation for the visual arts and its relationship to their own community and world cultures. The work of the fine artist, architect. and costume designer will be examined as part of this broad study of art. Specific artists studied are Frank Lloyd Wright, Architecture; Auguste Rodin. Sculpture; George's Seurant and Impressionism; Matisse and Fauvism; Picasso, and Cubism. A variety of media will be presented including painting, clay, paper mache, collage, and mixed media.
 
 
 
 
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
 
1.     Students will experiment with a variety of tools and materials and will demonstrate developed skills and increased expressive ability gained through their use.
 
2.     Students will recognize the validity and characteristics of different styles of art and will demonstrate openmindedness toward these various visual art styles (i.e. Realism, Impressionism. Fauvism. Cubism...)

Artistic Interpretation‑Interpret and evaluate a variety of art works using the elements, principles. and steles of the
art forms; and the social, historical, and cultural context of each work of art.

Paper for the standard.
