Course Title: Spanish 1A , 1B

Content: 3 Chapter (1-3)
3 levels per unit.
Familiar and Formal Greetings, describing people, subject pronouns and the verb ser, definite and indefinite articles, adjectives, the verb tener, possession, dates, present tense of –ar, -er, and –ir verbs, adverbs, the verb –ir, time, location (estar), interrogatives, the verb oir, expressing feelings, acabar de, venir, jugar, stem changing verbs, saber, making comparisons, weather, direct object pronouns, and the present progressive.
Purpose: The students will work to achieve a better understanding of the Spanish language and culture, and improve communication skills.
Process: A variety of approaches will be used to expose the students to the Spanish language and culture in order to facilitate students of all learning styles. Students are expected to listen and participate orally. They are also required to take proper notes in class. Students should review each night and complete any homework assignments given.
Evaluation: Students will be evaluated through homework, class work, journals, tests, quizzes, games, dialogues, projects and other assigned activities. Grades will be determined by weighted percentages. Tests/Projects are worth 30%, quizzes are worth 20%, homework, classwork and journals combined will be 40%, and and participation will be 10%. Approximately half the points will be earned through homework and class work, and the other half through quizzes, tests, and projects in order to give all students an opportunity to succeed if they work hard.
