COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class will study different types of vocal music as we prepare for four (4) concerts presented each year. Though the rehearsal of the selected songs; the students will study vocal techniques, ensemble skills, theory and history. They will learn to appreciate different styles of music and be able to express music appropriate for their developmental level. Students are required to attend all scheduled concerts and contest. They are also required to take individual voice lessons.

December 12 Holiday Concert (Concert Choir, Varsity Choir, Saints Chorale,

Chamber Singers)

February 29 MSHSL Large Group Contest (Concert Choir, Saint’s Chorale)

March 10 Festival Concert (Concert Choir and Concert Band)

March 15 Concert (Saints Chorale, Varsity Choir, Varsity Band)

April 4 Solo and Ensemble Contest

May 14 Pop Concert (Concert Choir, Varsity Choir, Saints Chorale,& Chamber Singers)

May 30 Baccalaureate (Concert Choir)

May 31 Graduation (Concert Choir)

TEXTBOOK: selected choral octavos and sight singing sheets.

CLASS RULES: RESPECT! Students will show respect for themselves, other students and the instructor.

Specific rules are available in the SPHS Choir handbook.

GRADING PROCEDURE: 60% - classroom participation and coursework

20% - individual lessons & sectionals

20% - concert participation

GRADING SCALE: 93 -100 A 73-79 C

90 -92 A- 70-72 C-

87-89 B+ 67-69 D+

83 -86 B 63-66 D

80 -82 B- 60-62 D-

77 -79 C+

PERIODS AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS: Periods 3, 5, 6 and 7 some days before or after school

MATERIALS REQUIRED: pencil in folder at all times

CONCERT CHOIR- SAINTS CHORALE

MEN – Black Pants, Black socks, Black Shoes

WOMEN – Black closed toed shoes, nylons. (No flip flops or sandals)

VARSITY CHOIR - (TBD)

- Robes

- Kahki pants – black shirts

- Black and white
