Welcome to our English Language Learner (ELL) website! My name is Stella Meixner. My teaching journey started soon after I received a Bachelor’s degree in English. I taught middle school students English in Taiwan for about five years. I then came to the U.S. to further my education. One year later, I received a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and started teaching ELLs in the St. Peter School District in 1994. Currently, I teach ELLs in grades 3-12.
I live in St. Peter with my loving husband and two wonderful children. In my free time, I enjoy jogging, swimming, reading, and listening to music.
Being able to speak Taiwanese, Chinese, English, and some Spanish helps me experience the process and complexity of learning a new language. Our ELL classes are designed to promote the students’ English language development and also support their learning in content areas. The ELLs are expected to do their best and have fun while learning. As an immigrant myself, I understand how important home cultures and languages are in their self-esteem and learning; therefore, we respect each other’s heritage, and we celebrate the wealth of diversity each ELL brings.
