My name is Deborah Hentges.  I am a School Social Worker at Saint Peter North Intermediate.  I have a Master's Degree in Social Work.  I am licensed as a Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and a School Social Worker.  I have been employed with the Saint Peter School District since 1992.

SOCIAL WORK SERVICES

School Social Work is a specialized area of practice within the broad field of social work.  In the schoĆol setting, the goal of school social work is to assist young people in accomplishing appropriate developmental tasks and identify conditions that interfere with the student's ability to connect with the educational system.  A key function of my work is to assess what is happening in relations in the classroom, within the family, and between family and school and offer interventions that will be most effective.

Social Work practice in schools includes: assessment, crisis intervention, home visits, conflict resolution, individual and group counseling, consultation, and coordinating the delivery of educational and mental health services.  School Social Workers actively address barriers within the child, home, school, and community that intefere with student success and achievement.

I feel privileged to be able to work with children and families in the early stages of the child's educational experience.  To help children and families cope and gain a sense of competence is rewarding and has enriched my life.

Feel free to contact me with questions or concerns anytime...Childhood is a journey, not a race.
