Parents,
As we get closer to the warmer weather, I would ask that you take a minute to check if you child is still dressing properly for school. It's warm this winter, but not so warm that we can be outside without long sleeves and a sweatshirt. Under dressing for the weather can lead to resistance to fight germs and that may mean missing school. When a child misses, he or she has two days for each day missed to make up the work. Please help him/her to get that work turned in so it won't become necessary to stay in at recess or after school at homework help.
We have some big events coming up at North here. The first is the Book Fair which is the week of February 13-17. The second is the Science/Arts and Academics night on February 16. Also, in class science projects are due that same week. Students are now working hard to complete these and could use a little extra help at home. Thanks for all your hard work in helping them prepare this - encouragement goes a long way. Please do not do the work for them.
Finally, let me just take a moment to say how proud I am of the students. They recently took a reading MAP test which demonstrated that they are making good gains toward meeting the Minnesota Academic Standards for fifth grade in reading. Continue to encourage them to read daily, meet their AR goals, and participate in the I Love To Read Month this February. Note that conferences are coming up on February 23 and again in March. Ask your child for the orange sheet of information if you haven't already read it. Thanks again, parents for all you do for your children and their education.
Educationally yours,
Ms. Preheim
