Kindergarten     First Grade     Second Grade 

 

MUSIC – Kindergarten Learner Outcomes

 
The student can:
Recognize differences between fast/slow and loud/soft.
Discriminate between high and low pitch.
Identify pitch direction.
Identify and sing intervals built with sol and mi.
Establish and maintain a steady beat.
Identify and demonstrate short rhythmic patterns containing quarter
     note, quarter rest and eighth note values by using the ta-ti method.
 
 
MUSIC – First Grade Learner Outcomes
 
The student can:
Apply skills learned in kindergarten.
Identify and demonstrate combinations of loud/soft and fast/slow.
Identify selected families of instruments.
Aurally distinguish between steps, skips and repeated notes.
Identify and sing intervals built with la, sol, mi and do.
Distinguish between the beat and the rhythm pattern of the melody.
Identify and demonstrate short rhythmic patterns containing
     half note, quarter note, quarter rest and eighth note values by
     using the ta-ti method.
Demonstrate and awareness of musical phrases.
Distinguish and demonstrate how pictured shapes, sounds and
     music are the same or different.
Identify thick and thin texture in music.
Sing music that belongs to and comes from many cultures.
Begin to make an effort to blend voices and play instruments
     with others.
 
 
 
MUSIC – Second Grade Learner Outcomes
 
The student can:
Apply skills learned in first grade.
Respond to speed changes in music by moving, singing, and playing
     instruments.
Identify examples of music that get louder or softer.
Sing examples of music that are either short and separated
     or smooth and flowing.
Visually identify and aurally distinguish between examples of the
     woodwind, brass, string, and percussion families.
Identify and sing intervals built with la, sol, mi, re and do.
Visually identify intervals as being steps, skips, or repeated notes.
Identify music as moving with beats in groups of 2’s or 3’s.
Identify and demonstrate rhythmic patterns containing whole,
     dotted half, half, quarter, and eighth notes; whole, half, and
     quarter rest values using the ta-ti method.
Recognize phrases that are the same or different.
Identify 2-part and 3-part forms (AB, ABA).
Identify when chord changes occur in an accompaniment.
Develop an awareness of a tonal center/home tone in a song.
Discriminate between music containing melody alone or
     melody with harmony.
Sing music that belongs to and comes from many cultures.
Make an effort to blend voices and play instruments with others.
