What is the Parent Council?
?? The Council is an informal group of South Elementary parents and guardians committed to helping enrich our school community.
What does the Council do?
?? The Council is a source of information and involvement for South Elementary parents and guardians.
?? Based on the needs, suggestions, and concerns of the school community, Council members set goals each fall that are worked on during the year. As needs change, goals change and evolve as well.
?? Past Council projects have included addressing lunch room, playground, and parking concerns, as well as planning
school-wide events like Boxtops-for-Education, Environmental Fair, International Carnival, Kindness Committee, and Raptor Rendezvous.
Who can participate?
?? Any parent or guardian who has a student enrolled at South Elementary is welcome to join the Council.
?? Employees of South Elementary and concerned community members are also welcome to participate.
?? Participants can join or leave the Council at any time.
?? Being on the Council is completely voluntary.
When does the Council meet?
?? Evening Council meetings are held monthly during the school year. Schedules are available in the school office and reminders go home to parents in the monthly Paperwad.
?? Meetings include updates on goals, new business, special interest presentations, Principal’s notes, and an open forum discussion.
?? Minutes of each meeting are recorded and made available in the next month’s Paperwad.
How is the Council structured?

each fall. The previous year’s Vice Chairperson automatically becomes the new Chair. All officers serve until thenext fall meeting.
?? The Chairperson sets the agenda and presides over all the Council’s meetings.
