2nd Grade Quarterly Goals

                            

• Knows basic addition and subtraction facts through 18
• Understands and can complete two-digit addition and subtraction problems including regrouping and ungrouping
• Understands place values to 1,000
• Can read and solve story problems independently 
• Can write an original story problem
• Can tell time to the minute
• Know values of all coins and can count any given amount of money
• Can name basic units of measure and knows how to use a ruler
• Can identify basic geometric shapes and easy fractions such as 1/3, 1/4, 1/2
• Can read and gather information from graphs

• Knows word wall words taught to date
• Uses strategies to figure out unknown words without adult help
• Identifies stories as fiction or non-fiction
• Can read quietly to themselves for up to 15 minutes
• Fluency goals for the year include;
• Reads at least 65 words per minute at the end of first quarter.
• Reads at least 75 words per minute at the end of second
• Reads at least 85 words per minute at the end of third quarter. Reads at least 95 words per minute at the end of fourth quarter. 

• Knows spelling words taught to date and can recall them in their writing 
• Using sound spelling when appropriate

• Participates during class projects and discussion
• Completes any daily work or homework given
• Studies and does their best on all tests given during the year

• Uses well formed letters in daily work
• Can write a well formed sentence including capital letters where needed and punctuation at the end
