Julie Carlblom - Special Education Teacher

I graduated from Minnesota State University-Mankato in 1995 with a degree in Elementary Education. In 1998, I graduated with a Master's Degree in Special Education Emotional and Behavior Disorders. In 2008, I earned a Certificate in Children's and Adolescent Mental Health from Bethel University.
I have enjoyed working with many different groups of students while employed with St. Peter Schools. I worked 4 years with middle/high school students at St. Peter Middle and High School. I spent 8 years teaching in a self-contained High School CTSS classroom at Minnesota Valley Education District.
Our family has lived in the St. Peter School District for 25 years. My husband and I have four children who have all graduated from St. Peter Schools; so I know first hand what a great school system we have here in St. Peter. Our children have all reflected on what great teachers they had as they journeyed through the St. Peter Schools.
I focus my teaching on social skills and everyday life skills. I hope my students will learn skills to help them cope and become all that they can be. In social skills group, the themes we will be covering are October - respect, November - caring people, December - feelings, January - bullying, February - teamwork, March - listening, April- making choices and May- setting goals.
In Math and Reading, the special education department received a grant for iPads so each special education teacher at South has 2 iPads for students to use. I am using mine for interventions as well as practicing skills. It is really keeping the student's interest and they are excited to use them. They have also become very responsible in handling them.
