Welcome to first grade!

Hello, my name is Mariah Howe and I am so excited to announce that I am going to be your child's first grade teacher this year! Just to share a little bit about myself, I graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2011 with a degree in Elementary Education and a Pre-Primary specialty. I am originally from Albert Lea, Minnesota and after graduation from college I returned to Albert Lea to teach pre-school for two years. Last year I made the exciting move to teach kindergarten here at South Elementary. This is now my second year of teaching here at South and this year I have made the transition to teach first grade. I am eager to have this opportunity to work with you and your child.

First grade is a time for another set of new beginnings, for making friends, and for learning lots of new things each day. With your cooperation I plan to work as a team to help your child develop their social skills, self-help skills, self control, physical ablity, and cognitive learning. I believe that children flourish and learn best when they feel safe, welcomed, and loved. Therefore, all of the activities and adventures we will partake in throughout the year will have those goals in mind. I am very eager to begin the school year and to share in all the adventures and learning opportunities I will have with you and your child. Remember you are always welcome in room 8. I can't wait to meet you!
