Lincoln Drive Update
LINCOLN DRIVE TO NO LONGER BE A THROUGH STREET AT MIDDLE SCHOOL
Reconfiguring project to being Aug. 13 as district looks to make that area safer for students
Saint Peter Middle School parents will notice some major changes on Lincoln Drive when school starts for grades 5-8 on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Lincoln Drive, which was maintained by the city of St. Peter up until this summer, will no longer be a through street and District 508 has taken over control of that stretch of road. The only vehicles that will be allowed to use the entire stretch of Lincoln Drive will be buses and emergency vehicles. There will also be NO parking allowed on any part of Lincoln Drive.
A speed bump and bollards will be used to deter traffic from using Lincoln Drive as a through street. Construction on this project is scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 13, at which time Lincoln Drive will be closed until the project is completed. Concerns for student safety in that area during the school day have prompted this action.
When the 2018-19 school year begins, parents are urged to continue using the football field parking lot whenever possible as the main drop off point before school and main pick up point after school. The cul-de-sac on Capitol Drive will also be available as a drop off and pick up point.
Once the project is completed, Lincoln Drive will still be accessible from the north on Broadway Avenue and from the south on Grace Street, but drivers will directed to loop through nearby parking lots on both ends and exit off Lincoln Drive at the same point where they entered.
