Big Blue Blocks at South playground

South Elementary kids have a new creative space on the playground with the recent installation of Imagination Playground’s Big Blue Blocks system. The innovative foam block play system and interactive play space designed to encourage child-directed, open-ended play and inspires children to build, create, and explore while developing creativity, problem-solving skills, and collaborative play.

“The new Imagination Playground blocks were purchased using proceeds from our recent Penny Wars and Star Pride Read-A-Thon,” Laura Zender, South Elementary’s school counselor, said. “While many students thrive on high-energy physical play offered by our current equipment, we also want our budding architects, engineers, and creative thinkers to have a dedicated space to imagine and build during recess.”

“So far we are seeing a lot of fun ways to use them,” Cindy Bruce, South’s behavior interventionist, said. “Building, creating and imagining different ways to connect them is really fun. We also hope that friendships will be formed by our students seeing others who have the same interests in a bigger setting.”

Imagination Playground’s Big Blue Blocks are a favorite large foam building block system for transforming kids’ playgrounds and expansive indoor and outdoor play environments in schools, community centers, parks, museums, and child care facilities. These giant foam building blocks, which are American made, are crafted from waterproof, non-porous foam that resists mold, mildew, and corrosion, ensuring long-lasting performance in high-traffic play spaces.

Above and below are some highlights of several South Elementary kids making the most out of the new set of Big Blue Blocks at the school's playground area.
