SPHS FFA Fish & Wildlife team

Saint Peter High School’s FFA Fish and Wildlife team earned a trip to the Minnesota State FFA Contest by placing fourth overall at Wednesday’s (Dec. 6) Region 7 FFA Contest, held at Maple River High School.

The SPHS varsity team heading to state includes Gavin Powers (fourth overall individually out of 100 competitors), Colton Willaert, Cooper DeBlieck, and Olivia Hollerich.

“Our students had to take a current issues exam about related topics happening within wildlife today,” SPHS FFA co-advisor Jacob Pehrson said. “They also showcased their skills with identifying samples anywhere from pictures, skulls, pelts, and mounts of mammals, reptiles, fish, game birds, non-game birds, and insects. The varsity team is moving onto the state FFA competition in April.”

SPHS also had a junior varsity team compete in the JV contest at the Region 7 event and placed sixth overall. JV team members included Tyler Krakow (sixth overall out of 49 competitors), Brody Whipps, and Alex Mueller.

Other competitions taking place at the Region 7 FFA Contest included Farm Business Management (FBM) and Conduct of Chapter Meetings (CCM) career development events.
