North/MVED book donation

A book donation in memory of Amanda Nusser, a paraprofessional who supported MVED students at North Elementary and who passed away in March, was recently made to the North media center. Several North and MVED teachers donated funds for the book donation.

In collaboration with Saint Peter Public Schools Media Specialist Karen Snay, a collection of picture books that represent students with disabilities and explore themes related to loss and grief was selected. These titles will serve as a tribute to Amanda’s impact. Cassie Cummiskey's students presented the books to Snay on behalf of the staff who contributed.

“Amanda had a special place in her heart for children, wanting each one to know someone cared,” Jacki Madden, MVED special education coordinator, said. “I wanted a way for Amanda to continue to give to students at North, even after her passing. Staff at North and MVED agreed and honored Amanda's memory with donations to purchase books.  With Karen's help, I chose books focused on special needs and death.  Amanda always wanted to do more for those who needed more, and with these books, she is doing just that.”

“The North Library is grateful to accept these books in honor of Amanda and her work with Cassie’s kids,” Karen Snay said. “Students at North will certainly benefit from the compassion, kindness, and inclusiveness shown in these books.”
