Saint Peter High School junior Sada Harmes recently received the prestigious Smith College (Northhampton, Mass.) Book Award during a presentation on May 29th at the SPHS main office with local Smith Club of Minnesota alum, Sabrina Infante ('96).
Infante presented Harmes with a certificate and a copy of “World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments,” which is an illustrated nature essay collection by New York Times best-selling author Aimee Nezhukumatathil. Before the presentation of the award and book, Sada and Sabrina, along with SPHS Principal Annette Engeldinger, talked about the SPHS junior’s academic interests and Infante shared information on what it means to be a liberal arts major at a women's college in the Northeast.
Smith College's Book Award program recognizes an outstanding Junior in a participating school’s community who exemplifies the academic achievement, leadership qualities, and civic engagement that characterize the thousands of women who have graduated from Smith College. The student embodies these qualities and serves as an example of scholarship and community service.
