SPHS's Fleur de Lis Singerss

Audition choir to give free send-off concert on Feb. 11; perform at MMEA Conference on Feb. 12

Last Monday, high school choirs across Minnesota received news that the annual Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA) conference would be cancelled due to recent events in Minneapolis. This was very disappointing news for Saint Peter High School's Fleur de Lis Singers as they were originally invited to perform at the MMEA conference, which is quite an honor.

The SPHS group, under the direction of Bri Bergstrom, had been working hard to prepare an impressive and meaningful program of music at that event. The choir was unsure whether or when they would be able to perform their concert, and updates on the conference were up in the air for many days.

After lots of waiting and wondering, a decision was finally made: Buffalo High School offered to host the MMEA conference, and was willing to have high school choirs visit from around the state to get a chance to perform. This wonderful alternative served as the light at the end of the tunnel and is now allowing the Fleur de Lis Singers to perform and showcase their hard work and talent to a broader audience after all.

The Fleur de Lis Singers are now full speed ahead with their program and will be performing at Buffalo High School on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m. Additionally, they will be performing a send-off concert on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m. Both performances are FREE to the public. The title of the concert is “Dear Future Me”, and it features a fully student-planned program with a wide variety of songs, including “Beloved”, a piece composed by SPHS senior Bekah Roemhildt that will debut at these performances.

“I am so grateful for the choir directors who stepped up immediately to plan alternate performance opportunities for those who were to perform at MMEA and other honor choirs that would have been held in Minneapolis," Bri Bergstrom, SPHS choir director, said. "I am so thrilled, and I can’t wait for these kids to share their program! I am so proud!"
