SPMS play cast & crew

Saint Peter Middle School’s Theater program will perform “James and the Giant Peach, Jr.” on the SPMS theatre stage the weekend of March 6-7. This year’s director is Abby Alderman, while Bri Bergstrom is the vocal director and Sam Budzinski is the choreographer.

Showtimes for the SPMS play are 7 p.m. on Friday, March 6 (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) and 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7 (doors open at 1:30 p.m.). Tickets are $5 per person and are available at the door starting 45 minutes before showtime both days. They also will be available on the school’s GoFan app starting on Friday, Feb. 27th.

According to StageAgent.com, a synopsis of ‘James and the Giant Peach, Jr.’ is as follows: “After his parents are killed by a stampeding rhino, James Trotter spends time in an orphanage before being sent to the only family he has left, his aunts Spiker and Sponge. But his aunts are cruel and torment poor James mercilessly. Urged by a mysterious man called Ladahlord, James creates a magical potion in an effort to change his situation. But the magic gets away from him, and instead he creates a giant peach and human-sized insects. The aunts see a way to make money from this impressive fruit. However, the insects decide they have to escape, and with James, they cut the peach from the tree--and their adventure begins.

"Based on Roald Dahl’s book of the same name, James and the Giant Peach is a whimsical and magical journey of one boy out to change his life and find a real family. Opportunities for puppetry and spectacular visual effects abound, and the show is available in both this Junior Version as well as Theatre for Young Audiences.”

“We are a new directing team and have been so excited to work with middle school students and help them find joy in theater!” Bergstrom said. “We have had a blast and are just trying to keep it a really fun atmosphere while sharing a childhood favorite story that everyone knows with really cool music to go with it. These kids are so talented and we have had a blast. It's going to be so much fun!”
