Fire department regions around the state of Minnesota are hosting Women Explore Fire Day MN on Saturday, May 2, which is designed to give women age 16 and older the chance to have hands-on experiences geared towards them in exploring fire, EMS, and first response volunteer and career options.
All districts throughout the state of Minnesota will host this event, with District 14 (which includes St. Peter Fire Department) hosting its event at Mankato’s Fire Station 1 (710 S. Front Street). Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the event starting at 10 a.m.
Fire department personnel will provide a positive, safe atmosphere that encourages curiosity in hopes to help showcase emergency response as a career and volunteer opportunity in their communities. Attendees of the Women Explore Fire Day event will have the opportunity to:
Climb a 100” ladder truck
Try on firefighting gear
Use the “Jaws of Life”
Speak with EMT/Paramedic educators about programs in our area
Practice “Stop the Bleed” skills
Learn about LUCAS CPR machines
Tour emergency response vehicles
Q&A with female professionals in the field
Meet other women interested in and working in the fire service, EMS, or first response.
