Parker Maloney and Coach Sean Keating

Saint Peter High School senior Parker Maloney capped off an outstanding prep basketball career by being chosen to compete in last weekend’s Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association’s All-Star series at Anoka-Ramsey Community College. This was the second all-star game for Maloney as he also played in the Minnesota Football Coaches Association’s game back in December.

This year’s MBCA All-Star Series also reunited Maloney with outgoing Saints’ head coach Sean Keating who was the head coach of the Maroon team, which included Maloney. Also on the Maroon team were fellow Big South Confence players Logan Junkermeier of Fairmont and Will Bromeland of Blue Earth Area, with BEA head coach Colby Swanson helping out as Keating’s assistant coach for the weekend. The Maroon team ended up winning the weekend event, defeating the Gold team in the title game. The Gold squad had two future Golden Gophers (Cedric Tomes of East Ridge and Nolen Anderson of Wayzata) on its roster.

“The whole experience was a lot of fun, and everyone received a shirt and custom hoodie with their name and number on it,” Maloney said. “I was blessed because I was on a team with two of my AAU teammates (Junkermeier and Bromeland). We started with a practice session then went right into the games. Our team was good about sharing the ball and playing together, which in an "all-star" game setting you don’t normally see that happen.

“I was playing with Jayden Moore (Hopkins), who is the all-time Minnesota assist leader, and after my first five minutes playing with him I can absolutely understand how he got there. He was throwing no-look passes, behind the back, and just crisp firm passes that were on the laces which was absolutely crazy. Just an overall fun day and even better that we could win the championship, and end my time in a St. Peter jersey on a win!”

"This was a super fun way to end Parker’s career and I was just thrilled to be a part of it. It was a great way for us to go out together and end our careers,” Keating said. “Parker represents everything you hope for in a player — toughness, coachability, and a commitment to improving every day. The All-Star game is a great honor, but it’s really a reflection of the work he’s put in over time. I was just lucky to be a part of that experience with him.”
