Saints' girls track team places second as a team at state!

St. Peter girls place second in team standings; Friedrich (2) & Maloney bring home state golds!

It was an outstanding weekend for the Saint’s girls and boys track & field teams at the Minnesota State Class AA Meet at St. Michael-Albertville High School. The Saints combined to take home 12 event medals and the girls claimed the second-place trophy in the AA team standings to top off an incredible week for the SPHS squads.

St. Peter was edged by a single point (64-63) by champion Orono, while the Saints edged Providence Academy by two points for runner-up honors.

Saints’ senior long distance standout Keira Friedrich capped a brilliant career in the Navy blue and white with two gold medals this weekend – winning the 3,200-meter run on Friday and then topping the field in the 1,600-meter run today (Saturday). She capped her career running the second leg for the Saints’ second-place 4x400-meter relay (along with Macey Portner, Vivian Hendrickson, and Ella Dirks) to claim a silver medal to go with her two golds. She finishes her stellar career as the most decorated long-distance runner in SPHS history with three state track gold medals in her career (she won the 1,600 at state in 2025) along with winning the MN State Class AA Girls Cross Country individual gold medal in the fall of 2025 and will now run for the University of Minnesota in 2026-27.

SPHS senior boys throwing standout Parker Maloney, who burst onto the scene last year by getting on the state medal stand in the discus in fifth, moved up four spots this year to win the gold medal in the discus on Saturday after placing second the day before in the shot put.

Maloney’s gold (discus) and silver (shot put) along with Brock Guth’s seventh-place finish in the pole vault put the Saints at a very respectable 11th place finish in the Class AA boys team standings, which was won by Mankato East.
