The Saints, which recently finished the regular season as Section 2AAA runner-up after an 18-10 campaign, had a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.95 at the varsity level. This is the just the second time the Saints’ boys have won the Section 2AAA academic award and the first state academic team champion award during Coach Sean Keating’s 13-year coaching career at SPHS
“It really goes to show that our kids are the definition of student-athletes,” Keating said. “They take challenging classes, put their schoolwork first, and it speaks to their character and discipline. They are fortunate to have such amazing teachers and support from their parents at home who emphasize the importance of academics.”
This is the second winter sports team this season that is affiliated with SPHS, to be named state academic champions. The Minnesota River Bulldogs girls’ hockey was named Class A state academic champions for that sport back in late February.
See the list below for each of the four class MN State Boys Basketball Academic Team champions as well as each of the section champions in all four classes.
