Teen Mental Health First Aid (TMHFA) is an evidence-based curriculum from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing that teaches teens in grades 9-12 how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in their friends and peers. The training gives teens the skills they need to have supportive conversations with their friends and emphasizes the importance of getting help from a responsible and trusted adult. The course consists of six 45 minute lessons.
“These students are now better prepared to recognize the signs of mental health and substance use challenges in their peers—and more importantly, how to respond with care and connect them to a trusted adult,” Panning said. “We’re so proud of this group for stepping up, learning, and being part of the movement to create a more supportive, stigma-free community.”
