The history of this Latino tradition begins each year on November 1 with the celebration of Los Santos Inocentes and concludes the next day with Day of the Dead. This tradition occurs annually to remember and celebrate those who are no longer with us; families create altars in order to provide offerings or special objects that once belonged to their loved ones. The first two days of November are a unique and beloved time for the Latino community, and being able to bring together this community to honor the sentiments of this tradition is a special opportunity.
Each site is decorated with traditional colors, “calaveras” (sugar skulls), marigolds, edible offerings, and drawings. According to Castillo-Clark, these altars are a way to bring together families and friends, and a great way for her students to learn more about an important tradition in Latin American culture.

The Saints’ other state doubles entry, senior Natalie Salfer and junior Margaux Letts, were eliminated in the consolation bracket this morning with a hard-fought 6-4/7-5 loss to the third-overall seeds Ali Bredenberg and Dillyn Lill of Fergus Falls. Salfer and Letts finished with a 1-2 record during the state doubles tourney.
CONGRATS & GOOD LUCK TO SAINTS GIRLS' TENNIS - Kudos to the Saints girls' tennis team as they defeated South St. Paul 6-1 Wednesday to claim the State Class AA consolation (fifth-place) team trophy. The Saints lost their opening round match 4-3 to eventual state runner-up Mahtomedi on Tuesday, but bounced back to beat Becker 6-1 in the consolation semis later that day. It's the second-best state finish in program history, only bested by the 1997 Saints squad's third-place finish.
Also, best of luck to the Saints’ girls tennis doubles tandems of Kylie Southworth/Brielle Romasiewicz and Natalie Salfer/Margaux Letts as they begin competition in the Minnesota State Class AA State Tournament’s individual rounds today (Thursday)
Southworth and Romasiewicz are the top-seeded team in the state tourney doubles field and face Maddie Ring and Mara Halonen of Delano at 10 a.m. Salfer and Letts are unseeded and face the #2 overall seed in Hill-Murray’s Nora Rubischko and Brooke Gabel at the same time. Win or lose, the Saints' duos will play a second match at 2 p.m.

St. Peter ended the season with a 5-3 overall record, including a three-game winning streak to finish the season with wins over Albert Lea, New Ulm, and Fairmont. Rocori finished its regular season with a 3-5 mark, and the Spartans are on a hot streak as well, winning three of their last four games.

The #5-seeded Saints (9-7-2 overall) will battle #2-seeded Southwest Minnesota Christian (14-2-1) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Austin. The Saints and Eagles played to a 3-3 draw back on September 12 here in St. Peter.

SECTION 2A BOYS SOCCER INFO - Best of luck to the fifth-seeded Saints’ boys soccer team as they head to Montgomery later today (Monday) to take on top-seeded Tri-City United in the Section 2A semifinals. Game time is 6 p.m., and the Saints/Titans’ winner advances to the Section 2A championship on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m.
The Saints advanced to today’s semifinal round with a thrilling win over Cannon Falls in a game settled by penalty kicks after a scoreless overtime period. TCU blanked Wings United (St. James/Madelia/Windom) 7-0 to advance.

SAINTS PRESSBOX DEDICATION UPDATE - More information has been made available about the upcoming dedication of the press box, in honor of the late Frank Fredlund, former Saints' coach and teacher. The dedication will take place at halftime of the Saints football game on Friday evening, after the Saints Marching Band performs.
The event will also recognize the 1976 and 1981 Saints state football teams, including former players, coaches, managers, and cheerleaders from those teams! The 1976 and 1981 team guests will be admitted FREE by entering through the pass gate on the North fence towards the practice field. Fredlund was head coach for the 1981 team and an assistant coach for the 1976 squad. Please meet on the track by the south end zone with about two minutes left in the first half.
